How much should you spend on an engagement ring?

Deciding on how much to spend on an engagement ring can be daunting, as it is a significant purchase that often carries emotional and symbolic value. As with many "big" occasions, societal expectations and pressures may have left you feeling confused as to what amount is appropriate to spend on an engagement ring.
Here are a few factors to consider when determining your budget for an engagement ring:
1. Your financial situation: It's essential, to be honest about what you can afford. While there is no hard and fast rule for how much you should spend on an engagement ring, it's generally recommended to spend what you feel comfortable with and what fits within your budget.
2. The recipient's preferences: Consider your partner's style and preferences when deciding on a ring. A more modest ring may be better if they prefer more understated, simple pieces. On the other hand, if they love more ornate and elaborate jewellery, a more extravagant ring may be a better choice. 3. The cost of an engagement ring is determined by the quality of the materials used: Higher-quality diamonds, for example, are typically more expensive than lower-quality ones, this is determined by the 4 C’s (cut, clarity, colour, and carat weight). However, I never use diamonds below a certain quality so that you know any Chloe May diamond is of a good quality. I can source a selection of stones at different price points to show you before you make your decision. It's also important to consider the metal used to make the ring, as different metals have different price points.
4. Personal or cultural traditions: Some couples may follow traditional guidelines for how much to spend on an engagement ring, such as the "three-month salary" rule. However, it's important to remember that these guidelines are just that – guidelines – ultimately, the decision of how much to spend should be based on what is comfortable for you and your partner.
